Hans-Peter Bantleon, M.D., D.D.S.

 

From 1979, training in dentistry at the Dental School, University of Graz.
Received his D.M.D. in 1981, was then Assistant at the Department of Oral Surgery and the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Dental School, University of Graz.
From February 1982, Assistant and, from 1987, Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthodontics, Dental School, University of Graz.
1989 Qualification as University Lecture for Dentistry with special regard to Orthodontics.
1992 Full Professor and Head of Department of Orthodontics, Dental School,
University of Vienna.
Main fields of work; biomechanics, bonding techniques and material aspects.
Since 1996 Chairman of the Austrian Society of Orthodontists.
Authored and co-authored more than 82 publications and 7 textbook chapters.
 

 

Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre Joho

 

Jean-Pierre Joho was born on January 27 in Glarus, Switzerland.
He received his federal diploma as dentist in 1965 at Zürich University, in 1986 received his doctor title as dentist, also in Zürich. In the years 1969-1971, he was awarded Certificate in Orthodontics and finished his Master of Science degree at University of Washington, Seattle, USA. In 1972 he completed specialisation in Orthodotics as of Swiss Orthodontic Society (SSO) standards. 1967-1997 he was teaching undergraduate and graduate students of Orthodontics and Pedodontics at universities in Zürich and Geneva. For the years 1992-1993 he was elected President of the European Orthodontic Society. 1996 he was appointed Doctor Honoris Causa at University of Athens, Greece, since 1997 he is Professor and Chairman of Department of Orthodontics at University of Geneva and works in his private practice as well.
In the years 1990-1992 he was consultant from outside EU in the ERASMUS coordination programme for undergraduate teaching in Orthodontics.
Since 1967 Professor Joho has contributed to world conferences by some 170 presentations as invited lecturer, he is author of about 70 publications in scientific journals.
He is a member of Société Suisse d’Odonto-Stomatologie (SSO), Association des Médecins-dentistes de Geneve (AMDG), Société Suisse d’Orthopédie Dento-faciale (SSODF), European Orthodontic Society (EOS), American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), Orthodontic Alumni Association, University of Washington, Foundation for Orthodontic Research (F.O.R.), Fédération dentaire Internationale (F.D.I.), International College of Dentists (fellow).
 

  MUDr. Irena Klímová
 

In 1983 I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague, where I was studying since 1978. In the years 1983-1992 I was working at the Department of Maxillofacial Orthopedy, I. Dentistry Clinic, Komenského University, Bratislava, Slovakia, where I specialised in cooperation with maxillofacial surgeon. In 1992 I began work as orthodontist at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Hospital in Ružinok, Slovakia, and therefore became member of the Clinic of Plastic Surgery Cleft Team at the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Bratislava. Since 1998 I have been running a private practice, where I have also been working with patients with cleft lip and palate. I also work in Cleft Lip and Palate Consultation Centre. I received my postgraduate specialisation in orthodontics in 1993. In 1996 I was appointed the Slovak representative in the EUROCLEFT Project on the standard of cleft care in Europe.
 

  Prof. Gunvor Semb
 

Professor Gunvor Semb graduated in Oslo, Norway in 1969. In 1974 she completed her orthodontic diploma and joined the Oslo Cleft Lip and Palate  Team. Since then she has worked exclusively with patients with clefts. In 1987 she become Direktor of the dental Unit of the National Hospital, Oslo and was appointed professor in 1996. Her thesis, „ An Analysis of the Oslo Cleft Lip and Palate Archive“, was published in 1991. She has participated in a series of international outcome studies on cleft lip and palate and published widely on cleft lip and palate.
Gunvor Semb is presently Senior Lecture  in Craniofacial Anomalies at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester and Adjunct professor at the University of Oslo. She is the co- ordinator of an international multicentre randomised trial of primary cleft surgery in patiens with clefts.
 

 

Prof. Bill Shaw

 

Professor Bill Shaw graduated in Glasdgow in 1968 before taking a Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 1971. He completed orthodontic training in Cardiff and completed a master’s degree in presurgical orthopeadics in children with clefts in 1976 and the social implications on dentofacial anomalies in 1980.
Since 1983 he has been professor of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Development at the University of Manchester. He has published in the area of orthodontic treatment need and outcome, and on the organisation of cleft care, and cleft treatment outcome.
He currently direct a multidisciplinary research programme on craniofacial anomalies for the European Union and the clinical section of a World Health Organisation programme on craniofacial anomalies. He is a joint co-ordinating editor of the Cochrane Collaboration Oral Health Group.
 

 

Prof. Dr. Stephen Williams University of Vienna

 

Professor Stephen Williams was born on 31st August 1994 in Bristol, England. 
His pursuit of education and professional experience started with the B.D.S. degree dental qualification that Professor Williams earned from University of Bristol in 1967. In 1974, he received authorization as Danish dental surgeon (D.D.S. degree). Subsequently, in 1982, he received authorization as Danish Orthodontic specialist (Dip. Orth. Den. – Specialtandaege).
Professor Williams entered his professional career in his private practice in England between the years 1967 and 1971. Then, until 1976, he held the position of Dental Officer at the Community Children’s Dental Service in Sonderborg. In 1976, Professor Williams started his postgraduate studies at the Royal Dental College in Arhas, Denmark. He held a full-time job there – he was appointed Assistant Professor in 1979, and Associate Professor three years later, which position he held until 1989. Between the years 1983 and 1985, he chaired his department at Royal Dental College. In 1985, Stephen Williams opened a private practice in Orthodontics in Horsens, Denmark, at which he still works nowadays. In the years 1989-1992, he had a part-time appointment teaching a postgraduate course in Orthodontics at the Royal Dental College. In 1994, he was invited for a year as Guest Professor at the University of Vienna in Austria. Since 1996, he has served as Consultant in Orthodontics for the Municipal Orthodontic Service of the City of Vejle, Denmark. Also, Professor Williams has held a private practice in Wiener Neustadt in Austria for the past three years.
In the years 1980-1994, Professor Williams held over 250 courses and lecture presentations in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Iceland, France, Belgium, England, U.S.A., and the Ukraine.
Throughout his career, Professor Williams has held several honorary positions: Vice President of the Danish Society of Orthodontic Specialists (1982-1993); he served as examiner for candidates for title Orthodontic Specialist (1982-1993). In 2000, he was named honorary member in the Ukrainian Orthodontic Society.
